By creating a self regulating system, An Amalgam Loop challanges the dichotomy between active and inert matter and brings the animacy of geologic entities between human perceptual thresholds. The project proposes a more empathic approach to inorganic matter challenging Western sciences analytical way of relating to it.

An Amalgam Loop is a sound installation that converts the chemical mutations between limestone and vinegar into a soundscape composed in real time by matter itself. Through the use of an Arduino and procedural music software, the chemical reaction takes full direction of the soundscape by controlling synthesisers, field recordings and melodic loops. Beyond enhancing its expressive capabilities, An Amalgam Loop also enables the chemical system to self-regulating behaviours, giving it control over the management of the reagents themselves.

In an act of semantic reversal between active and passive subjects, between living and non-living entities, An Amalgam Loop shines a spotlight on the animosity of an inorganic system, rendering it not only capable of communication but also of self-reference.
